Summary

When Nina Swann receives a condolence card from an old friend of her late husband, she’s intrigued. But Nick Radcliffe is looking for more than a simple offering of condolences. He wants to connect with her, something Nina welcomes and her daughter, Ash, does not. Nick seems too good to be true, and Ash begins to look into Nick’s past. What she finds is deeply unsettling…

Likes

Plot: I liked the plot of this book a lot. It’s a great deviation from some of the similar “bad man meets innocent victim” tropes I’ve read or heard of. First, you know Nick is the issue basically from the beginning, and so do some of the characters.

Perspective: Second, you have Nick’s perspective as well as those of the women he targets. Having his perspective is unique to this genre and helped round out the story a bit, if that makes sense. I appreciated that, mostly because you could see how complicated the story really was as well as get inside the head of the “villain” of the story.

Eh

So I’m cheating a bit here because one of the things I liked about the book was the different perspectives; however, I will admit that there were a few too many perspectives. There were times when I was having to stop at the beginning of a new chapter and reminds myself who a character was and what their role was in the story. So in that way, it could be confusing. There were also a few areas that were slow where I kept waiting for something big to happen and it ended up just fizzling a bit.

Do I Recommend?

Don’t Let Him In is a slow-burn thriller that I found enjoyable to read, despite some areas of extra slow-burn. I still recommend this book to anyone who enjoys domestic/relationship thrillers. It wasn’t terribly twisty, in my opinion, but I don’t know if it was meant to be. The plot is interesting, the characters are relatively well-rounded, and there were times I wanted to throw the book out of frustration (in a good way… it just meant I was invested!). If you have the chance to read this book, definitely add it to your to-read list!

Book source: I requested and received the eARC of this book from NetGalley and Atria Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
