Summary of The Last Word
A woman decides to house-sit in a remote location, with her slightly eccentric neighbor and the house’s owner her only human contacts. That is, until she posts a one-star review on a particularly poorly-written horror novel and gets into an online argument with the author. Now, strange incidents are happening at night, and she begins to wonder whether her review might have pushed the author to the edge…
Likes
Plot: How many of you have one-starred a book on Goodreads or Amazon? How many have heard from the author asking (and then demanding) you to take the review down? For me, yes to the former, no to the latter. But after reading The Last Word, I can tell you that a new fear has been unlocked.
Atmospheric: I literally felt chills a few times throughout this book, and the action/creepiness starts right at the beginning—this isn’t a slow-burn type of story. There were times I felt like I was there and it made me devour this book (and be thankful that I wasn’t actually there!).
Unpredictable (for me!): There were a lot of twists and turns in this book, and there were times I’d want to yell at the characters. For me, this was not a book where I could guess how it would end, and believe me–I tried. It was definitely an edge-of-my-seat experience.

Flashbacks/flashforwards: The only real criticism I have is that the flashbacks, flashforwards, etc., became a little cumbersome toward the end of the book. There were times I was confused or annoyed at trying to keep up with where I was in the story.
Recommendation & Rating
Do I recommend? Yes! This was my first Taylor Adams book and it certainly won’t be my last. I know this has some mixed reviews, but I personally loved this book and I want to add the rest of Adams’ books to my TBR. That ending, too, was PHEWWW.
